PLM Staff Picks: Our Favorite Areas in North Carolina

PLM blog-2

Welcome to Perspective, a blog by the PLM staff! Here’s where we will break down current events, share tips for improving your communication and design skills, and peel back the curtains of who we are at PLM.

Progressive Lens Media is proudly based in North Carolina, home to majestic mountains and sandy beaches. Now that we’re in the dog days of summer, the PLM staff has vacation on our minds. So for this month’s blog, we want to share our favorite spots around the state for some well-deserved rest and relaxation.

Black Mountain

A charming small town with a food scene that’ll make your taste buds sing! Lace up your boots for some epic hiking in Montreat, head to Pisgah Brewery for some live music and local craft beer, or spend an afternoon exploring the local galleries and shops. With Asheville just 30 minutes away and tons of affordable vacation rentals, Black Mountain is the ultimate launchpad for a family mountain adventure! – Ellie

Ocean Isle Beach

I love going to the beach in the fall. OIB is pretty quiet year-round, but the early fall is the sweet spot where businesses are still open but the beach is even less populated than usual. Because it’s a south-facing beach, you can see both sunset and sunrise on the beach. I have yet to capture the beautiful opal color of the water on camera. Recommended: fudge from Callahan’s, sushi on the rooftop at OIFC, the Thai coconut cake from Cakes by Care, and bagels from Ben & Bean. – Claire

Shackleford Banks

I don’t think I could ever get tired of North Carolina’s coast, so my number one pick would be Shackleford Banks! When I visited, the water was clear and blue, and I even spotted a few wild horses. I really loved the deserted island vibes. – Jessica

West Jefferson

Western North Carolina is home to an incredible array of beautiful places, especially for someone like me who prefers mountains to beaches. My personal favorite is West Jefferson during the fall, where you can view vibrant foliage, go hiking in nearby state parks, and stroll the lively downtown area. Recommended: Ramblin Poppy, Ashe County Cheese, Old Barn Winery. – Pia
